Short biography | |
After completing her study at the Faculty of Law of Ghent University, Evelien De Kezel continued to work at Utrecht University, researching the topics of liability, insurance, and family law. As legal expert, she participated in several research projects commissioned by local, regional, and national authorities. As of 2007, Evelien works as assistant professor at the Molengraaff Institute for Private Law / Utrecht University School of Law, where she participated in the research project "Prospects of European Private Law" (2006-2011). She is also a member of the Ius Commune Research School in Maastricht.
Next to her academic work, Evelien also works as a lawyer for the lawyer's office Van Eeckhoutte, Taqet and Clesse, mainly dealing with cassation issues and consulting and acting on national and international legal disputes. She is also a member of the Justice Forum of the European Commission. Several organizations, institutions, and academics participate in this forum, counselling the European Committee on a regular basis on topics of European civil and criminal law. Since 2003 she is also participant of the academic comittee PEOPIL (Pan European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers).
Evelien De Kezel has published a number of articles on liability, insurance, alternative means of compensation, and cassation issues. She now teaches mainly on the issue of law of obligations. Currently she is involved in a research project on social entrepreneurship and citizenship (together with Tine De Moor) and in the evaluation program regarding title 4.4 of the Algemene wet bestuursrecht (General Administrative Law), an evaluation commissioned by the Research and Documentation Centre (Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek- en Documentatiecentrum) of the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice.
