Short biography

As almost rural China is poor with the economy but rich in natural resources, Yifei Ma is curious about how can we turn lucid waters and lush mountains into invaluable assets. During her postgraduate study, she studied how to utilize the ecological advantages of rural areas for poverty alleviation. Also, she paid attention to ecological security when we utilize ecological resources. During her PhD study, she focuses on protecting rural natural ecological resources (especially water resources). The research mainly focuses on the public participation of the River Chief System (RSC: an environmental regulation policy in China to control river pollution and manage water resources). Yifei is trying to discuss the behavior motivation and influencing factors of villagers' collective action of water management and environmental governance on village level, and the empowerment role of policy in the supply of rural public goods. The aim is to promote villagers' collective action to achieve effective autonomous management of rural commons by villagers and to have more sustainable rural development.
